How to Measure for a Garage Door

If you're garage door has finally given up the ghost and you're trying to find a garage door you'll probably want to know what size you need to get an accurate quote. At Attenborough Garage Doors Ltd we are more than happy to come and measure your garage door for you, however if you want to have a go yourself here's your step by step guide.

What Tools Do You Need

Below is a list of tools you will need to measure your garage door;

- Tape Measure
- Pen & Paper
- Step Ladder
- A Helping Hand

Instructions

Below are some step by step instructions to help you measure your garage door.

Step One: Measure the Door Opening

Start at floor level and measure the opening width of the door by measure from side to side. Once you have done this make a note of the measurement so that you can refer back to it at a later stage.

Once you have done this, grab your step ladder (get your friend to hold the bottom of it) and measure the opening width of the door at the top of the garage. They should be the same, but overtime the door frame may have warped and by measuring the top and bottom you will be able to spot this early on.

Step Two: Measure Lengthwise Opening

While you're at the top of the ladder measure the lengthwise opening of the garage door from top to bottom. Do the same as you did when measuring the width of the garage door and measure from each corner downwards and from the middle. Similar to before this will give you an indication of whether or not the door has framed.

Step Three: Measure Ceiling Height

The ceiling height is the space between the ceiling and the garage door opening. This measurement is important if you are choosing a garage door without tracks.

However if this seems a bit daunting, why not pick up the phone and call us on 01332 561 672 and we'll arrange for one of our engineers to come and measure it for you.
